Turmeric {Curcuma Longa} 

Turmeric is referred to in Ayurveda as Haridra and balances all three doshas.

Ayurvedic Characteristics and Uses

  1. Effect on doshas – Decreases or pacifies Kapha and Vata, and due to its bitter taste it helps pacify Pitta making it a tri-doshic spice
  2. Taste  – pungent, bitter, astringent
  3. Energetics – heating
  4. Main Action – supports liver detoxification; anti-inflammation and decongestion
  5. Other Uses – extremely good for skin and complexion, sinusitis, joints; promotes the body’s healthy response to allergens; assists digestion; and supports a healthy immune response; good as blood purifier and for all inflammatory conditions
