Turmeric is referred to in Ayurveda as Haridra and balances all three doshas.

- Effect on doshas – Decreases or pacifies Kapha and Vata, and due to its bitter taste it helps pacify Pitta making it a tri-doshic spice
- Taste – pungent, bitter, astringent
