Bifidobacterium lacti  is now considered a subspecies of  Bifidobacterium animalis (1,2). It is found in the large intestines of humans and most other mammals. It is a member of phylum Firmicutes. most mammals, including humans. It is found in many food products, especially in dairy foods (3). As with other probiotics, different companies have attempted to trademark different strains of the bacteria. Research has shown that in combination with other probiotics has shown a beneficial effect in a study of patients with ulcerative colitis (4-5).
